WHY DO WE DO PRIMING BEFORE DECORATING?
Why is priming before painting necessary in many cases?
It prepares the substrate for further operations by levelling its absorbency (so that the wall does not absorb too much paint). In other words, priming makes the wall more stable and reinforced. This has a direct effect on decoration. It is easier to achieve an even, uniform coat of paint, and to avoid streaks and discolouration.
When is priming of ceilings and walls absolutely necessary?
It is highly recommended to prime new, previously unpainted walls. Unprimed, freshly erected walls are usually absorbent and dusty. We carry out priming after the plaster has been set, which usually takes about 28 days (3-4 weeks). Priming of the walls, before plastering or smoothing, is also advisable. It will affect the later durability of subsequent layers of the foundation. Nevertheless, this stage is usually the responsibility of a construction team. Remember: Priming refers mainly to an unpainted substrate. However, it is also advisable to apply a primer in case of freshly erected walls, as they usually come decorated with a poor-quality paint.
Remember to wait until the walls are thoroughly dry before you start repainting them. A good application of primer also means adequate drying time. Paint should not be applied too quickly on the primer. The primer will also lose its properties if you delay the wall renovation for a long time. Apply the primer or undercoat paint evenly with a brush or roller so that the wall is covered without any streaks. You will find a full instruction on the packaging of Optolith® products.
OPTOGRUNT by Optolith® – professional priming solutions
Priming ceilings and walls is an essential part of your renovation agenda. In order to save time and money, we sometimes skip the priming step or do it too quickly before the plaster has set. This is a huge mistake as it tends to build the costs later. Paint coats come off quickly from unprimed walls. Unprotected surfaces also develop unsightly damp patches and discolouration
Optogrunt is a range of special agents necessary to prepare the substrate for further construction works. The application of Optogrunt products allows to:
level and reduce absorbency of the substrate,
increase adhesion,
reduce dustiness,
strengthen the surface,
apply paints and plasters easily,
achieve a better result of the performed works.
