Innovative waterproofing – OPTOSTOP by Optolith®

Gorgeous bathrooms, kitchens, balconies, swimming pools, saunas, and other wet rooms – our dreamed areas – when we love spending most of our time. However, if certain issues have been done poorly during construction, this sweet dream can quickly turn into the nightmare. Waterproofing is a very important subject matter, because we put beautiful tiles, marbles, and other cladding upon the waterproofing layers.
When these wet rooms are in use, a large amount of water vapour is produced. Floors and walls are subjected to occasional or regular water exposure. The surfaces of ceramic and porcelain stoneware, and natural stone surfaces, which are resistant to moisture, do not fully prevent water seeping into the substrate.
Vapour and water particles can travel through joints and along the edges of baths and shower trays. If there is lack of a robust waterproofing, then the seeping water can cause leaks, which might lead to flooding of the rooms below. On the other hand, moisture, accumulated under tiles, leads to serious consequences such as: cracking, tile separation, formation of mould and efflorescence. In order to avoid such problems, it is necessary to protect the surfaces using sealing compounds or specialised micro-mortarising compounds.
